MONUMENT
It is a symbol of Warsaw commerce. The building was built between 1906 and 1909 according to the design of Juliusz Dzierżanowski. The bracket-shaped market building consists of a basilica-like hall set deep in the plot and two perpendicular gate buildings that extend to the street. After its revitalisation in 2014–2016, it has been restored to its former glory and given new functions. Its landmark are the gate buildings with their original decorations. Among others, the head of an ox – one of the few animal portraits in Warsaw – and the relief of a mermaid in the cartouche on the attic by Zygmunt Otto have been preserved.
